About The Samye Centre

The Samye Centre was founded by Katie Greenfield to introduce the benefits of yoga practices and rituals to women, mothers, babies, toddlers, children, teens and adults in the community.

We teach small, bespoke classes, giving lots of individual attention, and are qualified in teaching adult yoga, postnatal yoga, baby yoga & children’s yoga (including yoga for children with special needs). We hold weekly women’s yoga circles and in 2018 ran our first Women’s Yoga & Youth Hostelling weekends away, which now run 3 times a year. We believe in working together in the community, and across generations to support women’s & children’s health.

What does ‘Samye Centre’ mean?

‘Samye’ is a Tibetan Buddhist name which means: “All that you need is inside of you,” so ‘Samye Centre’ literally means: “The centre within you where you can access everything you need.” This journey from Pregnancy, through Birth to Motherhood and Maturity requires us to draw on all the internal resources we have. We need women supporting women, empowering each other in journeying to our own destinations.

We work with women to empower you to:

  • Find time to focus on and nurture yourself, at times when your needs are often the last to be met.
  • Experience the physical, mental and spiritual benefits of a yoga practice, when your body may be in need of extra support.
  • Use yoga practices to help heal your body, and ease the transition and journey, post birth into motherhood, and beyond.

We work with babies, children and teens (including children with special needs) to:

  • Encourage whole brain development
  • Help them find quiet and better access their own resources
  • Encourage creativity
  • Help them learn to listen to their body
